Valdespino stakes a claim as the oldest Sherry bodega. Contrabandista is created from 95% Palomino and 5% Pedro Ximénez grapes. The Palomino grapes are grown in the Pago Macharnudo; one of the top single-vineyard sites in Jerez. At 135 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest altitude sites in the region. The Pedro Ximénez grapes are sourced from the Montilla-Moriles region, which is further inland and hotter and drier than Jerez creating a medium-bodied sherry with a perfectly balanced sweetness.
