Although Hanyu ceased production in the early 2000s, Ichiro Akuto salvaged the remaining casks and continued the family tradition, blending heritage with innovation.
In 2008, Ichiro Akuto established the Chichibu Distillery in Saitama Prefecture, a short distance from Tokyo. The distillery rapidly garnered acclaim for its exceptional whiskies, which combine traditional Scottish methods with unique Japanese techniques.
