Founded in 1750, Domaine Chanson is one of the oldest wine producers in Burgundy. Situated in the heart of Beaune, Chanson has been at the forefront of Burgundy’s winemaking tradition for over two centuries. The estate is known for its exceptional vineyards, most notably in Beaune and Corton, where they produce sensational wines vintage after vintage.
This premier Cru Pinot Noir hails from the prestigious Clos des Mouches vineyard, located in the southern part of the Beaune appellation.
In Burgundy, “clos” refers to a walled vineyard, and in this case, “mouches” means “flies” in French. However, the vineyard’s name doesn’t refer to ordinary flies, but rather to honeybees, which were once abundant in this area. The vineyard’s name translates to the “Enclosure of the Bees,” a nod to the honey-producing bees that thrived in the warm, sun-drenched slopes of the Beaune hillside where the vineyard is located.
Overall, the 2017 vintage is considered excellent, offering wines with vibrant fruit, balanced acidity, and moderate tannins, making them approachable in their youth while still having the potential for further development in the bottle.
